2. Re: EuGTK Uprising

Well, there are a few factors which keep me from making this cross-platform.

First of all, developing & debugging the Windows version was a royal pain, since many minor errors would hang Windows, requiring a reboot. Hundreds of 'em. I don't have to reboot Linux.

Secondly, I no longer have a computer with Windows, and don't want to waste money buying Windows 7 (which is, I suppose, the one this should be tested with, if any). Doing that might also require me to upgrade my computer hardware - don't want to do that either.

Thirdly, if there were a version for Windows (like there was for the previous EuGTK), people would complain about having to load the GTK libraries to make it work, and then that it looks "different" (IOW, better) than native Windows controls.

Finally, the whole design philosophy of GTK and Windows is different. Windows programmers won't easily make the transition.

3. Re: EuGTK Uprising

There are a few really popular apps that are GTK based that run on Windows and Linux. Some on the new port to OS X as well. Pidgin, for example. Euphoria is a cross platform language and you will be severly limiting EuGTK's potential if you make it a single platform library. Now, for sure, if you don't have the development platform, desire or time, skip it but if you want EuGTK to really succeed, seek someone out who does have the platform, desire and time to help make and keep EuGTK cross-platform.

4. Re: EuGTK Uprising

Ron Tarrant and Mike Sabal were a great help in getting the first version working on Windows. Mike is still around, but I think Ron has given up on Euphoria.
