I thought it was hosted by BlueHost.com but DNS points to Site5.com.

That information is correct at this time.
We ran into some issues at BlueHost that could not be resolved to our satisfaction. We have had some issues over the past few days with Site5, and we'll have to see how that works out. Maybe one of the other admins can give us a status update. Is Site5 our go-to host, or will we be moving to someone else?

I think you will encounter the same problems with any shared hosting provider. They don't like running any custom software but the default already installed on their servers (php, perl, etc.).

Rumor has it that Unkmar offered one of his computers for hosting. And I hear that he hosts all of his own sites there. Probably a paranoia thing. Not trusting unknown hosting companies to do the job right or something like that. My understanding is that all but one his sites are low traffic. And that one site has been moved to its own server and connection to prevent any possible slow downs. I guess we can all wait and see how it goes. Eventually, someone will make a hosting decision that sticks.

I hadn't heard that rumour, but on the other hand, how far does one trust a person who talks in the third person
And for the record, I've not had one problem with the current host at Site5. Actually, I used to have problems using Opera on Jeremy's site (slow response leading to timeouts according to Opera) but I've not had an issue with the site5 host - and remember I'm a loooong way from that host.

Why not host it on a VPS? The pricing is pretty comparable and it should avoid most if not all of the issues of shared hosting.
Whatever you do, avoid Godaddy and 1and1- they are beyond terrible.

I still goes on receiving "Internal Server Error" messages from time to time (in fact, very often).

This is happening to me too.
Jeremy mentioned that he saw ~10 500 errors per day on the old oe.cowgar.com website (in the apache logs).

10 a day? I had to write my previous post three times because of server errors. Finally I decided to copy and paste it to avoid writing it over and over again.

I wonder if unk wants the openeuphoria site to cause his hosting to crash. After all, openeuphoria.org has server 500 errors no matter where it's hosted.

That is out of ~17,000 avg hits per day, so your chances of getting one while it was hosted on oe.cowgar.com was pretty slim.

That was on the old host, not this host. BTW... No need to rewrite anything, just hit refresh!

Hits are not the same as pages.

Yes, but just doing simple analysis w/grep and wc it's the easiest to measure. With caching of most resources (JS, CSS, Images) it's not *too* far off for the sake of simple discussions but is a bit more than page views.

Well, just for simple comparisons, i got nearly no 500's on Jeremy's host, and getting ~20% 500's on this "new" host.

Same observation here. The errors on the old host were limited to Eu crashes and misconfiguration errors and happened all the time but only on certain pages till they were fixed. The new host has crashes intermittently on every page- sounds like the same issue as the Godaddy one where a process limitation or something was preventing Eu from running (which is why shared hosting is NOT well suited to CGI).
(Is it possible the 10/day errors on the old host were simply Eu EX.ERR-type crashes, and unrelated to the current situation? I recall when testing Creole, when it would crash it sometimes gave an error 500 instead of crash report.)

As someone who offers (shared) hosting at WAZU JAPAN I would suggest that neither of these assertions is correct. It's just a matter of finding a good hosting provider.
I use Euphoria for all of my CGI, of which my pricing page is an example.
I'm reading this forum again because, surprise surprise, the RSS feed sprang into life after an entire year of not working.

Euphoria isn't a cPanel offering.
But see the FAQ for two mentions of Euphoria.

Yeah, it was up and running at http://oe.cowgar.com/rss.wc the whole time, but any openeuphoria.org links (such as http://openeuphoria.org/rss.wc or http://openeuphoria.org/messages_ful.xml) were broken.

More than 50% of the requests fail for me.

Site temporarily unavailable. This error is new to me and it probably means that Site5 is restricting resources to sites hosted there.

For a "first round" of dedicated host testing, I have a box availible at no charge.
Its Centos 5.5 KDE based, lots of disk storage, "fair use" bandwidth, online 24x7 unless being rebooted for kernel upgrades.
Its physically based in South Africa though, (its under my desk at home) The ram is 1.5Gb. The network is 4Mb download, 1Mb upload speed.
However, I could potentailly reload the box with another OS, linux preferred since I don't have a Windows server license.
I do have various Ubuntu's up to 10.10 RC availible. The box also has NX loaded, its a freeware VNC equivalent for Linux.
Root access would be given to the developers.
Any developers interested?
Regards,
Alan

Gents/Ladies,
How about the Euphoria website asking for donations to have Euphoria hosted on a dedicated server?
I'll donate $30 to get the ball rolling

We have an account set up just for that! Send your payment via PayPal to
This will go towards funding the VPS on which OpenEuphoria.org is now hosted.
Thank you! :)

That's not quite true. We don't want people donating money for something it's not going to be used for. Alan was asking about a dedicated server. We would love to take donations and apply it to our bills though as CK has said.
Alan, is there a problem with the current virtual private server?

No, I don't have issues with the current virtual private server.
I thought the service providers are permitting only known languages (perl/php etc)
on virtual servers, wheras there should be no issue with a real server -
after all, what will the provider care if you grab too much CPU/ram? You are not affecting
any of his other customers. Of course, a true server is more expensive than a virtual.
So if you are looking to get a real server, I'll donate towards it.
Regards
Alan

I've never seen any sort of limitation on a Virtual Private Server.
This site runs on the VPS on Euphoria 4.0.0 bleeding edge.

The same is (usually) true for a VPS as well.

The VPS is like a true, standalone server. We have a dedicated CPU and some dedicated RAM and disk space. Within those limits, we can do whatever we like. We chose the OS, have installed the packages we wanted, and are running the processes that we want.
I think the current server is sufficient for our current needs. We're currently on the smallest plan, so there's lots of room to grow. There are definitely plans (or at least aspirations ) to do more with what we have:
- hosting SCM / tickets for euphoria community projects
- setting up a debian repository

The paypal link mentioned above, just attempts to open a new forum topic .
I don't know how to get Paypal to allow an email address as a beneficiary!
I also don't see anything obvious about donations from the homepage either.
When I get the paypal howto, the $30 will be on its way...

You can send a payment to an email address via Paypal, or you can see the Donate button/link at this URL.
We're going to have a donations page at this site once RC1 is out. Stay tuned! :)
(That PayPal link was not intended to be a PayPal link. The CamelCase caused the forum to think it was a link to a wiki page.)
