What is not elegant about recursion? I would say that is more elegant
that loops. Recursion is the natural way to make a tree. The code will
certainly be smaller with recursion.

But you can do it either way with Euphoria.

I'm not against pbr. But not having it is no big deal. I would like
variable_id(), however, but not for pbr reasons.

No, it wouldn't, and if it was added I wouldn't complain. But I doubt I
would use it much.

Nevertheless, you missed the original point, again. (About your psyche,
not about functional programming and whether or not Eu has
side-effects.)
