The proxy should be able to work on another Linux system. I don't have one
handy that I can test it on, though.

Hope doesn't have to be lost yet, as there may be another who would be willing
to take my code and help test it on their own remote linux box or even go as
far as finding you a shell to host it on.

That was due to tripwire, which messed up all of Apache, not just the proxy.
(It also messed up quite a few other things, such as ssh.)
