I vote 'no' on this one. Official library should be cross-platform only.
A win32 library can be official but not base. wxWidgets FTW.

How about that library that lets you interface to all databases?

Right now I use Matt Lewis' EuSQL quite extensively and effectively for all
my database needs. Since all my database interface is SQL, I could change from
EDS to [fill in the blank] whenever I please (in theory). :)
