My reply:

I guess the little smiley at the end of my question got lost. I had =
not intended to offend anyone. I have been tense from my regular job, =
and if that attitude has bled into the list, I apologize. I was =
actually suprised that I wrote something that could actually be useful =
to anybody (including myself!). As far as timing goes, I'd never timed =
a program before, so I was completely unaware of the limit and greatly =
appreciate the feedback regarding that function. Regarding the random =
calls and printf's, those are only there for the purposes of demo, not =
in actual usage.
I am not a professional programmer, despite my futile efforts to become
        =
one. Nor, methinks, shall I ever. But I enjoy programming as a hobby, =
and I hope I can contribute something of value to somebody somewhere at =
some point in time. My only purpose in writing this function was a fun =
mathematical exercise (sp?), and to see if anyone could optimize it =
further (hence the timing). I was hoping this would become an =
optimization thread similar to the prime-number generators written last =
year. And so, any opinions you may have regarding my programming, =
please be open with them -- on the list. I would greatly appreciate ALL =
constructive criticism. Any personal attacks you may have would kindly =
be sent to my private e-mail address. I seek no offence and urgently =
request the opportunity to right any wrongs I have unwittingly =
committed. RSVP.
