Actually, what you need to do for all the help-building software
that I've seen is to save your documents as .RTF files (Rich Text
=46ormat).  Even having done that, there's a Word template that
comes with the MS Help Compiler (or should) that provides styles
that will ensure that links, anchors, popups, et cetera, are all
formatted the way MS does their help files.

The latest version of the Help Compiler also supposedly supports
the new HTMLHelp format, which offers another possibility for a
source format.
