Just some thoughs...

There has been some writing about other programming
languages and their specialities. Has anyone thought
about in which cases Euphoria might be the #1 choise?

I mean, what kind of problems could be better solved
in Euphoria than in any other language?

Some people are making acion and rpg games in EU,
but this can of course be done just as well in many
other languages, including ASM.

If you want the coolest, fastest possible shoot'em-up,
you might want to use pure ASM.

If you want a good spreadsheet, C might be the choise,
since the task is too complicated for ASM, but overall
speed is also very important when hundreds of functions
are called for each cell while processing huge lists of data.

Other programs are made to deal with mathematical
problems, text-related problems or other special fields.

So what about Euphoria?

I'm no expert, but to me it seems like there is a
paradox with EU. You might say that the speed, both in
run-time and while developing, the simple language
definition and the ease by which bugs can be detected,
all together makes EU perfect for projects which are
distinguished by being extremely complicated.

So EU could be called a language designed to deal with
one particular kind of problems: The complex one.
(-: because it's so simple smile

But this doesn't hold water, because even though the
_language_ is very structurized and thus ready for the
complex problems, we still have to face it: the handling
of large, variable structures is presently made difficult,
amongs other things because of the dumb way typechecking
works on sequences.

Oops! Now I used the forbidden word, structure!

For that matter, I hate that word. Listen to it:

'STRUCTURE'

Try typing that word on your keyboard very fast
three times after each other. See what I mean?
Now try: "template". Much better, right?

Among the many nice associations I get when I
hear the word 'Template', is a romantic templar
knight contemplating in a temple (wearing a plate
armor, and perhaps eating a plate of chockolate smile.

Never mind, I just like the sound of the word, OK? smile

STRUCTURES on the other hand, sounds like
something initially concieved by Nietzsche (in one
of his many deep depressions), misinterpreted by the
nazis during WW2 and used by Goebbels in his
propaganda as an excuse to murder jews,
homosexuals and handicaped people by the millions.

So there you have my humble opinion.

Just in case we get to vote...

My best regards to you all,

Tor Bernhard Gausen
