I think the main reason might be -- at least if the source code is not too big like in your example --, that using 'bindw' your program is bound to the file "pdexw.exe" (72 k in Eu 2.4), while using 'bind' the program is bound to "pdex.exe" (about 182 k in Eu 2.4).
