Instead of all the messages coming to your mailbox as in a listserv, you have to go to a message base to read all the messages. A newsgroup usually sticks to a specific subject, such as posts about Babylon 5, debating the merits of snuffing Shannon Doherty, or discussing politics local or international. At last memory, there are over 15,000 newsgroups to choose from. You require a program to read and write to newsgroups...I use NewsX but some people swear by other product names.
