Newsgroups are like BBS message bases, and are the opposite of a listserv.
Instead of all the messages coming to your mailbox as in a listserv, you
have to go to a message base to read all the messages.

A newsgroup usually sticks to a specific subject, such as posts about
Babylon 5, debating the merits of snuffing Shannon Doherty, or discussing
politics local or international. At last memory, there are over 15,000
newsgroups to choose from. You require a program to read and write to
newsgroups...I use NewsX but some people swear by other product names.
