Not having something might be simpler than having it (you can't get any shorter than zero letters, although that is not the criteria I'm using.) As Derek has repeatedly said, paraphrased... what you do in the privacy of your own code is your business. Think of art. Working with constraints and exercising discipline often leads to beauty. Throwing globs of paint at a canvas is less compelling to me. You may or may not get the analogy, but for those that do it is profound. At least, I find it so.
