That'l Be The Day Suggestion (Plan 9 from you know where):

Open Source project consistency recomendation.  Since gnu utilities such as
tar and gzip are also available under windows, use them to compress and
zip files. Bingo! Seamless cross-platform functionality for a cross-platform 
language. A a wxWindow GUI shell could be provided as a demo for the wxWindow
library.
