That's because each program has it's own memory space.  There is an 
"Interprocess Communication" library by PatRat and a "Share Memory 
Between Processes" library by Mario Steele and Jason Mirwald in the 
archives.  I have no experience with either but one of those two libs 
should cover your needs.
