Available memory

I know some1 asked this before, but what is the (fastest) way to check the
available memory.
I was hoping it is just a peek ()
Since speed is crucial.

Well, actually I want to know the biggest block of memory I can allocate...

And if I allocate the block, and free it again, does it stay allocated to
Euphoria (as with sequences and stuff), or is it really freed?
