Currently, the length of a sequence, in memory or in EDS, must fit in a 32-bit unsigned number (i.e. 4Gb maximum). Before you hit that limit, you'll hit the 4Gb limit on the total size of a .edb file. In EDS, a sequence requires at least one byte per element, maybe more if you use large integers or floating-point numbers. Both the 4Gb limit on sequence length, and the 4Gb limit on EDS database size could be removed eventually, without breaking any code.
