Too bad IBM didn't. Then we wouldn't have this awful bleating coming from
Billy boy about his freedom to innovate. Of course, that would only have
left us with their truly awful choice of chip...the x86 series from our other
favorite innovator, Intel. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have Euphoria
running on whatever would have grown out of a decision to build the PC
around the Motorola 68000 series or the National Semiconductor competitor.
So much would be sooooooooo much cleaner with a clean instruction set
and general purpose registers from the beginning instead of the abortion
represented by the 8080 and it's descendants until just recently. Come to
think of it, we're still suffering from it. Look at what most assembler has to
work around in the addressing modes of any x86..ugh. Some legacies should
be quietly interred along with their founders.
