Generally I think using `=' for assignment and `==' for comparison sucks! In mathematics `=' has been used for ages as a relation symbol. It's the assignment statement that needs (may need) special treatment. The natural symbol for assignment is a "left arrow", but unfortunately it's not available in ASCII and e.g. ` x <- y' can easilly be mixed up with `x < -y'. -- August
