I really like the code as well - it's simple to understand and implement
 - a lot easier than a programme I wrote using two shells communicating
through memshare. As Rob says, it's a judgement call where it should be
implemented and such a call can only be made quantitatively.

It would be a shame to have its efficiency impaired if it wasn't built in.
