The EDS API is a bit clunky. I was thinking of making a EDS class library for Diamond so that you wouldn't have a "current database" and some other things could be handled better. There is no reason that one couldn't create several alternate API's that all support the same underlying EDB file structure. I would really like to see a b-tree database implementation in pure Euphoria...
