[GEN] and [WIN], etc.

I'm sitting here reading my EMail tonight and I
noticed that a lot of the subjects start with [GEN] or
something similar and I was wondering if I missed
something...? :/  I usually pay good attention to the
list's messages, but I guess I've missed something.
Is this a new policy, or just if you want to help
clarify your message?  I do understand what each of
the [XYZ]'s mean.  Oh well.
