I think Python would fall far short of the speed of Euphoria on the mailing list search: http://www.rapideuphoria.com/listserv.htm We're now up to 85 Mb of message data, and messages are searchable the instant they are posted. The search program is 1072 lines, excluding comments and blank lines, and took a couple of man-weeks to write. It runs on a server that's shared with dozens of other domains. On Google, everything is heavily indexed. They don't do much, if any, scanning of text when you click the button.
