Colin I'm back again. Yes, the Chinese fonts are mostly just plain and center, no offsets or baselines. The reason to go to 32X32 is that there are more than just a few characters which have over 24 different 'strokes' in them and it is literally impossible to duplicate them in less than 32 dots from bottom to top. This is why ANY 16 dpi oriental font file is useless for anything more than common writing. As to the grid taking care of the layout on a sheet (or page) you are totally correct about the bitmap controlling its own space and the space around it. As to kerning and larger spacing between the lines; don't worry about it. There is one other thing though: when a vertical mode is being used, Roman letters (that is, our ABC..xyz etc.) are ALSO strung vertically, but I will build a special set for this purpose and donate it into the EUphoria community domain. Also, I suppose at some time I should start to pop in a few fonts, such as the Korean and so on. Not my great big on, but something that has learing tools attached to it. As per the Font File Format (HBF or whatever) check out Lucius output and we should see which suits best here. But I think both directions are strong, we will have to figure this all out like you say. Thanks! I will do some more on this tomorrow along with more on the Chinese [Han] typography. Regards, Norm
