Your link command is backwards. If you're in the /usr/X11R6/lib directory, then
do this:
ln -s libX11.so.6 libX11.so

ldconfig should set up /etc/ld.so.cache to find it. /usr/X11R6/lib should be in
/etc/ld.so.conf for ldconfig to check it.
