I can only assume that there's a whole lot of caching going on. I added a flush() right before close, and it only took 0.4145 minutes. (First try with flush() took 0.541 minutes, but I hadn't deleted the files from the previous run, so I think that wasn't really a fair test.) Matt Lewis
