What type of PC did you run this on Derek?
My PC at work (PIII 650 Windows 2000 Professional) does this
in 2.36 seconds (for a 4,121,548 bytes sized file)

I haven't tried to optimise it yet (not sure what I could do really)

Note: I won't be submitting my entry to contest 1 (I assume Derek
won't either)
