Consider the case where two programs came up with two solutions. Program A correctly guesses the position of the 'e', so more of the text is solved. Program B correctly guesses the position of the 'c' and 'k', so more letters are solved. Which scores higher? And I agree that it's not fair to give points for figuring out, for example, that "X" = "Q" if the letter Q never appears in the cipher in the first place. -- David Cuny
