Does it actually make a difference? I think the only true way to know how fast the modem is (or the data rate of the connection) is to get the CONNECT string, it should say CONNECT 28800 during the connection sequence. ATI0 (zero) may work on most (if not all?) modems to tell you it's nominal data rate. Gary
