If, instead, you are using tabs to align normal text in tabular form (say 1st column for name, 2nd for address, and so on), not only spaces generate inconsistencies, bur non-blank characters too, because a tab inserts not a fixed number of spaces but enough spaces to the next tab stop. You get fields that don't match when characters overlap a tab stop. Regards.
