pc speaker noise

I'm pretty new to euphoria, so i dont know what is causing this. when 
running a dos program, if i hit a key during a sleep() period (or any 
alternate pausing loop using time() ), it'll cause the pc speaker to 
constantly let out a loud, constant beep for the remainder of the 
program. thanks in advance for any help
