Mirc does it because either you are on an irc net with them and sent them a ctcp dccfilesend, or you knew the ip#. File sharing programs share thru a sharing server (with a static ip or static hostname), which the program contacts to let know you are online at what ip#. Only if the logon name is a valid host or ip can you "guess" what the ip is. Kat
