Computer controlled switches

We have built a 9-foot domed observatory on the roof of our high school to house our 12" Meade LX200 telescope. We can control the telescope from the classroom via standard software, VNC and the school network. We need to be able to automate control of the position of the dome. We intend to use an inexpensive barcode reader for indexing the dome position, and I have written a program that converts the date, time, obervatory location and Right Ascension and Declination of a celestial target to the required azimuth for the dome slit. The thing that is missing is a way to switch the motor on and off, forward and reverse, high speed (12v) and low speed (6v). I am sure that I can do this with Euphoria, but I don't know how to interface the program to physical switches or relays. Can someone point me to the required information? We do not really need a fancy GUI. DOS level would work if that is an advantage. Can we use Euphoria tasking to have the dome control program interrupt the telescope software program once a second to get current telescope position?
