But that's a topic for > another forum. winmodems are broken, nasty beasts that should be sent to your nearest "ecycle" outlet, not now but yesterday ;)) There are plenty of "real" modems still available (and extra cheap) nowadays that will make it possible for you to upgrade your system to a Linux distro or a flavor of BSD. Hell even Solaris 10 is free. The latter OSes require "hardware" modems, as opposed to win-doze centric "software" modems.
