I should try wxEuphoria, too! :) I don't think XP pays any attention to autoexec.bat, so probably Vista doesn't either. In XP you have to set environment variables such as EUDIR by using: Start / Control Panel / Performance & Maintenance / System / Advanced / Environment Variables Then a reboot might be required.
