Some one told me,at this mail list(sorry, I don't remember who!) that could be due to a hardware problem with the diode of the laser reader... but then, why it works correctly with other data CD's and music cd's? >> I know some things about viruses, and there is such a thing as viruses that actually target antivirus software. Many will forbid them to run. Others can be made to launch whenever a AVS tries to scan for them! If the AV cd is the only one behaving this way, that is the first thing I'd start looking for. In the meantime, I wouldn't try uploading any files to the rest of us - just in case. If the program is older, the chances are much higher that this *could* be the cause. I have found it always to be wisest to keep 2 AV program's on my system. You might try downloading some freeware or shareware AVS programs and scanning with them, just to see what happens. They might turn up something. Thunderbyte used to be a good one that was shareware, but keep in mind, its VERY sensitive. It think practically anything is a virus. So you need to play with its settings. It's been a long time since I've fiddled with any of their stuff. Also, some viruses may not turn up on the first try. If you get nothing, try again the next day or so, just to make sure. If you do find one, then get more trouble later on, you might try scanning some of your more recently used floppy diskettes. Some viruses replicate themselves out to every available medium that they can write to. Anyway, I'd give it a shot. See what turns up. It could be something else, but that's probably where I'd start. Good luck! Isaac
