Re: graphical engines
Greetings
I had to make a more decent post after the one I just did about Derek,
because for some reason I feel bad about having to send such a empty and
futile missal about the 'subject that will not be named'!
I find the talk about Game Engines fascinating. Will somebody please send
up a post about the current state of affairs with them and EU, such as
which is the fastest, etc. But also can somebody define what makes a body
of coding a 'graphics engine' in the first place? This is a very
legitimate area of discussion for many of us, and it certainly is germaine
to some of the things that I respect and attempt to do myself. Such as
'how fast can this thing REALLY, REALLY be made to go?', 'does tight code
(meaning 'less is better') always do a better job than just good code?',
and so on. That is why I try to do everything that I can in EU, because it
is fast, small, and flexible.
I think that anyone who tries to wring the last remaining bit of capability
out of any hardware device through the composition of superior coding is
fine in my books, and this means especially Gamers, whose reputation and
often livelihood depends upon being able to do so. This is, in fact, very
close to what constitutes that ephemeral thing known as QUALITY.
I welcome the feed-back, as always
thanks
Norm
