Thanks for reporting this. Yes, a single bogus character typed after E, instead of + or - will be quietly ignored. (Multiple bogus characters will give an error.) This is not new in v2.1. v2.0 works the same way. The parser should give you a syntax error in this case. I'll fix it for the next release.
