good job carl. but i found a little problem. there's an error margin 
when converting UNIX dates, usually around 3 or 4 hours. otherwise, your 
library works great! anyway, here's the 'ar' archive i tested it with. 
the second column is the UNIX date/time. the third and fourth columns 
are the user and group IDs of the file, and the last 3 digits of the 5th 
column are the permissions(though i have no idea what the first 3 are), 
and the 6th column is the length. and i'll be darned if i know what that 
` is for smile
