calling a file that runs in a separate application

I have found the "Call It" program.  But, apparently it only calls files that
end with an .exe extension.
Does anyone know of a way to call a file that runs in a separate application.

For example, I have a program that I use in my classroom.  At a specific time
(which is no problem, already have a timer installed)..
I want my Euphoria program to run a power point show.  Can someone tell me how
to do this?  It is a file that ends with .pps , which I want it to open in
Microsoft Power Point (perhaps Microsoft Power Point Viewer)
