However, editing files of essentially unlimited length (XML data files for one) is not unreasonable, ram/cache permitting. By the latter I mean don't expect it to be possible/ reasonable performance reading a file of 2 million lines on a PC only equipped with 32M of ram. Theoretically it might be expected/doable, in practice usually not. Anyway, I digress. Do you need it now, or not? Pete
