Hi Kat,

I mentioned this before and didn't receieve any responce (many weeks
ago) ...

If you want to write programs that run on *nix boxes in a professional
environment, "you" will need a *nix box of your own to practice with.
This "is" required. Without it, you will fail. You will need it as
a test machine, when your happy with your software yuo can upload it
whereever you want.

That isn't saying you have to become an expert, but you will at
miniumum be required to know the basics. Even professional *nix
providers aren't going to hold your hand every step of the way ...
no matter how much money you pay them.

The other option is to use a Windows host to run your programs.
I assume this would cost more, but would give you am easier path to
your goal.

As good as everyone is for helping (and it sounds like they are trying
very hard to help!), if you want to develop professional services
for platform X ... you "require" at least a basic understanding of
platform X. Some of the most trival problems have drastic effects,
and the client doesn't care why, they are only interested in the
results.

I know this probably sounds negative, but I think you should set
yourself achievable goals.

As an example, an achievable goal is to do the whole thing on Windows
first, and then give yourself ... say 2-3 months get it all working
unders *nix. This would allow you to get a *nix box, get familiar
with it, and get familiar with the target server, permissions,
upload software etc etc.
