Hi Everett,
=20
It sounds like sarcasm, but as you can see on the Date of the 2 =
GHz-(Athlon) there is "actual knowledge" behind
those funny words. (Read the actual AMD-Annoncments).=20
=20
Also the "CPU-people" found out, that they are wasting much, horsepower =
by calculating=20
"possible Jump-targets" instead of putting it in "true =
calculationpower" in a second unit.
=20
So what will happen: At the moment the People have mostly ONE CPU. =
Within 7 month the new
AMD 760 Chipset may enable two upgradable Processors.
=20
Within 12 month many more people will use Win 2000 & successor that =
enables the USE OF A a second Processor.
Then they'll find out that in many cases a second Proz is something =
funny.
=20
And then after some time (let 2 years come ... ?) the wheel will begin =
to turn like with the
CD-ROM Drives (16x, 24x, ... 72x ?) and you get MB with 2,4 ... X =
Prozessors.
=20
We'll wait and look how the next UT will be.
=20
Have fun
--Theo
=20
PS: Count your open Windows & Progs. I have since long time a =
DUAL-Prozessor-System and can recommend it to all those people
who work (like me) with lots of windows ( >20) at one time.=20

Theo,=20

Actually, I think that your formula is probably correct...the new =
Moore's=20
law. Connectivity and capability do matter in this world, and the =
current=20
computer has both in abundance. The coming voice interface will require =

another doubling or two in processing power and much higher speed=20
memory, which is coming. Then, when we start to push towards even=20
semi-intelligent response, double all that once or more. At some point, =

we are going to start to need some neural network type processor, which =

will probably come from organic processes.=20

In your sarcasm, funny as it might be, is buried a very large grain of =
truth.=20

Thats funny,25 years before your >>8k. system handled 24 concurrent =
users<< today this WINDOWS-System with 200 MB RAM has trouble handling =
ONE user smile.So what will be in 25 years ? We will have multiple =
Systems each one with 24 Processors and they will not be enough for 1 =
user ...Another out-of-topic thing: The Computers needed 25 years to =
rech the first GHz (1 GHz-PC).The next GHz will be in range in 1 =
Year.Have fun--Theo http://theogott.de <http://theogott.de>=20
