Help! chdir command

I have a sequence with 3 or 4 internal sequences.
I would like to change the active directory by using one of the
URL's in my sequence.
eg: paths[6]
when I try i =3D chdir(paths[6])
it doesn't do anything
when i try
i =3D chdir("paths[6]")
it doesn't do anything. How can I put info from a sequence into the =
chdir command?
HELP! Its drivin me crazy.
