Either or I think. You won't mess up your computer with VMWare, and it's
'unlikely' with CoLinux (the worst is trying to make a folder in a cofs mount, a
native windows folder accessible from windows, that will spontaneously reboot
your computer, not good, use sftp, or make folders in Windows, not Linux).

The VMWare route is much easier to get set up and you end up with a nice GUI
straight away. The advantage of CoLinux is that it is not virtualised and
therefore faster (except for networking which they haven't found a faster way to
do yet). You have a better chance of working with real devices, as long as
Windows hasn't grabbed them already.

Another option to add to the mix is Bochs, http://bochs.sourceforge.net/ That is
definitely an emulator but good if you only want a command line development
environment.

BTW, I recommend Debian www.debian.org smile
(Simply because I've found its package management to be much more reliable, and
there's a prebuilt minimal Debian filesystem available for CoLinux)
(But I'm risking a major off topic thread, so I'll stop now :)
