There's absolutely no difference between -1 and (-1).
The parser simply discards the brackets.
Maybe the brackets were left over after Jacques converted
from C to Euphoria.

Jacques recently informed me that he is not on the
mailing list anymore, but he visits the Web site frequently,
and is still actively programming in Euphoria.
