CK, I've just uploaded a new version of Kanarie Template System (1.7) to
my website. It contains the feature you asked for: anyvalue.
To check if a field is set to any value, use this code:
{dbname=*:} Database {dbname}
{:dbname=:} No database {:dbname}

You can also redefine the anyvalue-character to something else than *.
