It has the effect of shining a spotlight on oneself as being humbler than the other thou's. I never see that lowercase "i" as being other than by an egotist proud of being more unassuming than others. A related affectation is the use either of all uppercase or lowercase. The message seems to be: "I am so busy and focused that I have no time to use the shift key; I leave that to drones..." But to me it says: "I am a raving ******* and here is my questionable opinion." --Quark
