Re: Visual Euphoria Library -- The End!!!

Gary,

Oh, no! It's a shame that you decided not to go with VEL. Can we do
anything to convince you that the project is valued by many people,
far more than the ones that answered the poll on your website.
You say you believe nothing further can be gained by extending the
development of the library, but I think there is a lot that can be
gained.

Although I appreciate Win32Lib by David Cuny, I think VEL005 is a
very good development environment, and the use of it is easier than
writing a program using Win32Lib, especially for "dummies" like
myself. After the inclusion of Greg Harris' event handler it became
even easier. Maybe the majority of the programmers on this Euphoria
listserver don't want to call themselves "dummies", and they prefer
doing things the hard way. For that *is* what I think; writing and
maintaining a progam with the VEL library is done much quicker than
with the Win32Lib library.
So, that's my point: discussion are *very* welcome on this topic!!

A few days ago I had a private email exchange with you, Gary, and
you seemed to be very enthousiastic about how things were going in
developing VEL006. You even spoke of you being quite far with an
Integrated Development Environment, making the use of VEL even
easier. And now you say that 'you have another venture that you are
going to actively pursue'. Please, reconsider your decision in
favour of the Euphoria community, at least the ones in the
community that are interested in Win32 programming. (I say this to avoi=
d discussions with 'Window smashers' like Jiri Babor :)).
I think it is a good thing that there are 2 'competing' approaches,
Win32Lib and VEL, and above that, they are not mutually exclusive,
they can live together in the same application, as far as I know.
I sincerely hope your mail and this response are going to produce a
long and usefull thread of messages, and that the result wil be the
further development of VEL =C3=A0nd Win32Lib.
