Transparent window

Has anybody succesfully used transparent window?

I would like to display text on screen with transparent background, like OSD
(on screen display).

I know it can be done because I have 2 programs which do it good, but not
source code for them.
It can be done using WS_EX_TRANSPARENT flag.

I can't use windows regions because they are slow and I can't stroke text.

This is the only thing missing to my subtitle displayer program, to draw
text transparent on top of screen.
