Games for Distribution

Once in a while, somebody here on the list talks about games and the release and distribution of those games. In today's PC gaming world, one's game must meet a few minimum criteria in order to have a chance to succeed. These are as follows: 1. Superb playability - probably the most important factor; we've seen games with stunning graphics but no playability spoil on the shelves, while those with lesser graphics get bought up to a second- or third-printing. 2. Good graphics - I didn't say graphics weren't important. A game with good graphics and playability will beat out a game with just playability. Right? 3. Multi-player - This means via modem or internet. If there is the possibility of multiple enemies, you better allow some of those to be human players. 4. Appropriate sounds - Sounds provide clues, atmosphere, etc. And they better work with most sound cards. 5. Speed - Of course, you can't have the bad guys jumpin' all over the screen. It has to be smoooooth animation at 20+fps. Otherwise, dust will be collected upon thy box. So, imagine you've released your game to the gaming world. If it meets the above criteria, you've probably got a good start. The next part (and the hardest) is convincing the gaming masses to buy YOUR game vs. the hundreds of others out there. You'll be battling companies with more time, money, and marketing savvy than you. Good luck! ck P.S. All opinions are my own and I could be wrong. It's happened before. Your opinion is appreciated.
