Sorry about that.

Jerry I have a program I wrote and call printer2Col.e.
Basically what it does is:
  read all the columns 
  find the longest line in each column
  make all the rows in esch column the same width
  and finds the largest font to fit all columns on the page.
it works with screen or printer .

It would be easier for me to e-mail it to you than to try to explain it.
But I think it's exactly what you want.
